In early 2013, the City of Bessemer began the process to convert an existing 17 acre park into a full recreational facility which would include baseball fields, multi-purpose fields, exterior basketball courts, tennis courts, walking tracks and a 60,000 square foot recreation and wellness center. This would be the first public recreational facility of its kind for the city in over 50 years. CWA, Inc. and consultants worked closely with the mayor and the city council to help budget, program and design the eventual facility. Slated to open in the spring of 2016, the recreation and wellness center is equipped with (2) 84'-0' basketball courts, an indoor swimming pool, a multipurpose auditorium, multiple fitness areas and rooms and an interior walking track that overlooks the entire facility.
