Charles Williams & Associates, Inc. served as the Architect of Record for the transformation of an existing Birmingham City Schools facility into the North Roebuck Pre-K Center, a specialized learning environment designed for the district’s youngest students. The project focused on creating spaces that are safe, engaging, and developmentally suited for early childhood education while maintaining flexibility for future needs.

Interior renovations included the reconfiguration of classrooms to optimize natural light, improve circulation, and allow for varied learning activities. New finishes and vibrant, age-appropriate color schemes were introduced to foster creativity and comfort, while durable materials were selected to withstand heavy use. Restrooms were fully updated for accessibility and child-friendly functionality, and support spaces were modernized to meet programmatic needs.

Safety was a key priority, with secure entry points, controlled access systems, and improved site circulation to accommodate parent drop-off and bus traffic. Exterior enhancements created an inviting and welcoming arrival sequence, including landscaping and improved pedestrian connections.

The resulting facility reflects Birmingham City Schools’ commitment to providing high-quality early learning environments. The North Roebuck Pre-K Center now serves as a model for future early childhood projects, balancing functional requirements with a warm, inspiring atmosphere for students, staff, and families.
